It healed well, so just 5 weeks in the cast and another week with just the pins - just as immobile really. It was a pain keeping the cast dry and it was painful for a while but once it died down I was doing all sorts; hacking a golf ball around the local 3 par course, canyon swing and fly-by-wire (Queenstown attractions) with out too much bother. Once the pins where removed (another story) could hardly move it so I’d recommend to make sure you get, or look up good phsyo advice and get a power ball or similar to get your grip and movement back 100%. I started with barley being able to touch my thumb to first finger and a token effort by the time I got trying to reach the little one. I was advised to go through this exercise at least hundred times a day as well as up down side to side, wiggle from first knuckle holding second etc. I was on the road once the cast was off so found it easy to sit in the car and do it and all was good after a few weeks or so after the pins where out. From my experience, I’d say you looking at a couple of months before riding in anger as the cast is only stage one of recovery unfortunately. :-(

Thanks for the info - thats all really useful and has set my expectations as regards recovery.

Had muchos comedy today trying to button a shirt up - spent ages doing it then realised the buttons where out of step... cue swearing!

I just got to find the piece of string. Yes its easy to use once you get used to it! only stopped using it because it gets annoying when trying to watch tv lol
