I thought you just ordered a 4000 Lumen personal star as well?
I ordered the black version of that Solar light, head unit only, with an 8 cell battery.

Yeah baby! Moooooore power!
Battery will die, it wont get any brighter after 2 are on anyway but the spread will be good.
With the right battery and the right wiring it could be epic!

Last night in the dark with only the pencil style torch on my noggin i decided that it makes your riding much more focused when you cant see all around LOL

Well its more than possible that i failed to charge the battery ! the plastic hollow adapter plug is pretty crap add to the fact it was hanging unsupported meant that the contacts were broken ? sussed this out last night and managed to support it so the charge light was red instead of green and it charged for a few hours before changing to green, will test it out next Tuesday <fingers crossed> will also look at binning off the naff adapter plug for a proper 3 way plug

This: http://www.lightmalls.com/solarstorm-x2 ... -lamp-only
and this: http://www.lightmalls.com/8-4v-12000mah ... with-pouch just arrived (no duty to pay, took about 2 weeks from Singapore).
Please to say the the light connector fits these standard battery connectors fine. The Solorstorm comes with a screw fitting connector but the bigger battery pack uses the standard female connector, so should work with all my lights.
The light is impressively small, looks like it will make a good helmet light and the battery should give twice the run time of the 4 cell ones.

I ordered the same but with the light, ordered the complete unit with battery and charger..

Got an email yesterday (placed order on 30th September) saying was finally being packaged..
Hopefully it won't take too long to get here...

I have been using this as a reference for some time now...

http://flashlightwiki.com/Cree#XP-G

It gives an overview of the types of Cree so you know what to expect when buying a light. In order of power and efficiency the current hierarchy seems to be...

XM-L T6, < the original led which led the charge of affordable but powerful lights a couple years back
XM-L U2, < current sweet spot of price and power
XM-L2 T6 < not that common but might end up cheaper and more common than than XM-L U2
XM-L U3, < not that common
XM-L2 U2 < current power and output monsters appearing in a few lights

With the wiki info plus knowing the voltage and AH of your battery, you should also be able to work out predicted lumens (not lux) and run time, reasonably accurately. I tend to ignore what the seller says in terms of output and work it out for myself if possible.

Optics and battery management / quality obviously make a big difference to the light too. A good light is a balance of weight, output, size and ease of use..... not just power.

Im no expert .. so just my take.

http://www.kenworster.com/ledcalc/ is also a handy tool, expecially if you use the datasheet for the LED's your lights have (for forward voltages etc). Always round down figures though as actual runtimes will always be lower, especially in cold weather.

I'll try and post up weights soon. Just used it on the quick ride home after work and the light seemed good. Now as good reach as I expected but I do have a 3 x T6 that's around 3000 lumens so maybe I'm a bit used to that.
