Ahh someone mentioned cars, now theres something I'm fluent in! The reason nitrogen is recommended for cars is because it doesn't expand as it gets hot so when you put the recommended amount of pressure in they stay there so wether your doing 70 down the motorway or 5 in the snow, theres also no water in it so your rims don't corrode. Both of these factors are useless for mtb!

My pressure guide is my thumb, it's a very useful digit, you can use it to press the tyre. If it feels too soft for the conditions add more air, too hard it is also ideal for the task of letting a bit out. ;-)

I've been running at 20 PSI the last few days. Has been great on the ice and snow slog to work until I hit the road, then it really drags. Stupidly decide to put a little more air in this morning and ended up on my arse just round the corner from my house on the first bit of ice. :D

:P Lethal out there at the moment where it's been compacted. Flitch way is ok if you go at a decent speed, really bumpy now though.

Think my tyres would be on EXTREME hard on that scale!!! haahaaaaa

I run my tyres hard anyway but i run my dirt jump bike tyres at 70psi and my Ralph/Nic combo at about 35/40psi!

^^^ i tried my High Rollers at 44psi at the end of last summer at Danbury and lost traction and stacked it on the first run LOL about 34-40 feels spot on for me but they're more temperamental than my missus !!!

Finally got hold of a track pump to check my tyres and my finger guesstimate was very off. I've got 25psi front and 30psi rear right now, in the snow I let the air out without the pump and when I got back O was running 10psi front and rear.

So far I'm impressed by tubeless only time will tell, it will get a proper testing at Cwncarm and FOD in March.

I'd factor in the tyre manufacturers recommendations too, some tyres are higher/lower volume not just width. I guess the general rule of thumb here is use a little less in the front especially in slippery conditions!
