If anyone want to upgrade an old-ish laptop with sata II inteface Scan have really good price for 240GB and 120GB(pre-order) OCZ SSD drives.

I got myself two of these and they are well worth it. Laptop boot time is now from about 1 minute down to 15 sec for comparison.

Yes there are bigger ones but they are quite expensive for the moment. You are looking at the £300-£400 mark for 512GB SSD.
Do you really need that much or more space on a laptop?

Yep! Current 260GB is (or was) at 230GB. Everything is also on a 200GB Dropbox account but its nice to have it all...

In theory you could have smallish SSD that holds the OS so it boots and runs quickly but store big data files on another standard HD, but of course on laptops you cant really fit 2 HD's in..but would work well on desktops.

That's right Andydd, only small number of laptops will have the option for two hard drives.

If you want to hold large amount of data probably best thing is get a NAS with 2-4 big disks which also can act as a backup device depending on the setup.

That way all your biking videos and photos will be safe :)

Just a heads up on these.. it's worth upgrading the firmware on most SSD's before you put your p0rn on it - Some of the firmware upgrades are data destructive, and even those that aren't it's recommended to do a secure erase.

We've had isses with a number of drive's - mostly sandforce controllers (vertex 2/corsair force) tbh - that have been solved with firmware updates, and it's a complete PITA when the drive's already in a running PC, since it means backup, update, wipe, restore.

Depends how long the drive's been on the shelf before shipping TBH - most of the stuff we've had from scan came with fairly recent firmware, but you never know.

Also worth making sure your partition is aligned for best performance - it will be if you've done a clean install of vista or above, otherwise google it - plenty of info out there.
