Before esher X has even opened, they have shut down for good, seems such a waste of time, money and effort as they have been working endless hour to try to get the place open for spring. TBH, i feel sorry for the volunteers who worked for countless hours every night for weeks, expecting to gain an awesome biking venue out of it, and in the end, the land owner decides to scrap the whole place!!

To be fair, the place has been going downhill for years.
Its too niche.
The guy who runs the place seems out of touch with what people want. He knocked the jumps down and built a pump track last year, despite everyone saying dont, then moaned that the pump track had ultra poor usage.

There was mega concerns voiced about people travelling to a place to just ride a dual and 4x track, yet he still battled on!

I hope it gets the go-ahead, as its quite iconic, but I cant see it happening!

You cant keep everyone happy

Personally I liked the old Esher so I was sad to see that go - but usage was low - so credit to him for looking to try something new.

From what ive read and from chats with Rob I think the DJ's were a total bugger to maintain - they flooded and got mashed and spent a lot of the time in an un-ridable state. Thus the move to pump track.

With the terrain on offer (postage stamp) , and having to work with a variety of local authorities while keeping the users happy, he's done a really good job over the years. I hope he keeps trying to get it to work.

For some reason, esherX have now removed the post on there blog saying they are terminating the project.

So perhaps there's hope

You're right, there is hope:

well we've had some better news today, that the local authority is not at all happy with the landowner trying to close down what is an established sports facility that they gave their full backing to in 2004 and forms parts of the local authority's portfolio of sports venues

the landowner has environmental concerns to attend to (birds and trees!! despite their being an industrial unit next door to the wood) and surveys need to be done and whatnot

this is all now going back and forth between the men in grey suits, and its going to take some time to resolve(so its basically "on hold"), but perhaps Esher X will finally rise from the ashes of Esher Shore

Read in Dirt that Esher X is no more and Freeborn has gone too. They are building a hotel on the land :(
