Hi,

I've managed to convince a roadie friend to get a mountain bike, and we're planning on meeting at Epping Forest next weekend for his first proper off-road ride. Epping Forest isn't local to me so I need some advice on where to ride, I'm up in Cambridgeshire so will be getting the train down on the Cambridge->Liverpool Street line, what part of the forest is good for an easy/obvious ride and also fairly accessible by rail?

The other question is how is Epping riding at the moment: will it be a sloppy mud fest by next weekend, or still ridable?

Thanks for any help,
Ross

I can handle getting to the forest, it's the big green thing. ;) Any tips on what bits of the forest to ride, or is there a fairly well defined trail?

Its a slop fest at the moment and covered in leaves!
I can post a trip from last weekend but it would be better to try and get someone to guide you

There are often meets at high beech on Saturdays and Sundays
A few of us are riding tomorrow
And will probably ride next weekend.
No properly defined trails unfortunately, you might be better off going to thetford forest
Peeping is pretty muddy but great fun

Between bad trains and epic mud, I think we're going to hit Thetford next weekend. Maybe we'll return to Epping once it has frozen over. :)

Xc race at thetford this sunday. will be torn up to sht by the afternoon... epping a waste of time. too wet and the trails covered in leaves and debris. if you dont know where you're going you might as well just ride blindly into the woods cos its all the same atm!

sorry, i sound like the voice of doom!

The WS at thetford is on BCP side so we will just stick to High Lodge side.
