Tried to fit my new seat and discovered that the allen bolt has been rounded off on my Crank Brothers Cobalt seat post. I'll attack it and get a new bolt, but thought I could also use it as an excuse to get a nice new one too.

I started looking and was immediately baffled. What brands are good and which are bad? What should I look for in a seat post? I would imagine weight is important, but is carbon strong enough for a mountain bike?

Too may questions :eh:

So, what's hot and what's not?

Current one is 30.9mm (C11TRX) and set back (of approx. 20mm) fixings.

Cheers

Paul

Not dropper. Just a good, lightweight, tough post :)

Carbon is strong enough..!! As for weight, unless your going to build a super light bike I wouldn't worry too much..
My advice is decide how much you want to spend before you look or things get out of hand fast..
You don't need to spend a fortune on a 30.9mm post

Here are some to look at....

Or

http://www.on-one.co.uk/ have good quality cheap parts.

Gives you an idea..

Cheers guys :)

Went for the Crank Brothers Cobalt 2 as it was too cheap to resist from chain reaction :)

As above really. Went for the Crank Brothers Cobalt 2. It's light and strong, so can't ask for much more. Was also on offer at Chain Reaction
