I'm doing quite a bit of muddy XC at the moment around Broxbourne and heading over Epping today. The tyres I've got at the moment aren't up to the job. I've been doing some research but the reviews seem mixed on everything.

At the moment these are the choices. Schwalbe Nobby Nics, Maxxis Minion, Continental Barons or Mountain Kings II? Because I've never tried any of these before I have no idea what' good or not? Any advice would be good?

I also need a new front light as I've not made it back before dark a couple of nights. I'm looking at the Moon XP300. It's the Max I want to pay. Any other better options out there please let me know?

Thanks

Chris

Bontrager Mud X 's are supposed to be v.good but a cheaper option would be Geax Datura's (£14.99 @ on one). I have been using the Datura's for the past 4 months mainly around Broxbourne and Epping and find them v.good on everything apart from wet roots. Have also been to danbury , chicky and cannock chase with no probs . they are quite big for mud tyres @ 2.2 but don't have any probs on my Trek Ex

I know a lot has been said about lights but I've just purchased a TrustFire 3x CREE XM-L XML T6 LED 4000Lm from eBay and the quality for £37 was good, very bright light.

Cheers everyone. I ended up going with Mountain Kings as they were relatively cheap and on offer. So far they seem Ok both on road and off. I ended up doing a 4 hour session today over Epping. I went straight down the hill next to the pub at High beach and thought I found a nice jump. Hit it quite hard and realised there was a tree stump on the other side haha. Face full over brambles. Priceless.

I'll have a look at that light now. Cheers

I've got an eBay Cree light 1600 lumens for £22.99ish and based on a moonshine but half the price.

Worst way go to Magicshine and order yourself a digital battery - mine is coupled with a £25 ebay special and it's great - I charge it ever other ride!

OK so I bought some Conti Mountain King tyres about four weeks ago. I have had four punctures since. Nearly every-time I ride. Sick of them now. So what are the other choices. This is my list but don't know which one to choose. I just want them for XC. Woods, tracks and some light road use.

Maxxis High Roller 2.35 single ply 2.35
Panaracer Fire XC Pro
Maxxis Minion single ply
Maxxis Advantage
Schwalbe Nobby Nics
Schwalbe Hans Dampf

I much prefer grip and puncture resistance to rolling speed. But would like something that's in between the two? What are you using?

Tubeless isn't an option at the moment but from what I've read it solves a lot of flat tyre problems. Is it expensive? I take it you need new wheels?

Don't need new wheels... use stans no tubes tyre sealant and your need to get some rim tape and valves... oh and tubless specific tyres as they seat better..

Ok nice. It's the way forward then? Any links to point me in the right direction haha?

PS The selection of tubeless tyres seems quite small?

If it thorn related the easy/cheap option is slime tire tape ? It's a thick tape you run around the inside between tyre and tube.
Had my first puncture of the year Sunday and its a bugger :(
